Consider a system that takes in 750 J of heat while performing 1050 J of work. What is the change of this system’s internal energy? I know the formula is U =Q + W, but i’m unsure of what the sign is for W. Can someone show me how to do this please?

How Do I Calculate The Change In Internal Energy?
A woman is walking up a mountain trail at a constant speed. While she is walking she ingests a candy bar that supplies 751 Cal of energy. The work she does while climbing results in an increase of gravitational potential energy of 469 Cal. As a result of her exertion her body produces 375 Cal of thermal energy. Calculate the change in her internal energy. Cal (What must be the sign of this change?)
